Description:

Participants passing this course will become recertified as a 2011 YMCA Lifeguard though the YMCA of the USA. They will also become recertified in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and Oxygen Administration though the American Safety and Health Institute. An 80% is required to pass all written tests and 100% is required for all practical. Please see prerequisites for more information on requirements. This is a YMCA of the USA(Suncoast) training where instruction and certification are included in the class fees of $149. Fee for class will be taken care of by a Journal Transfer. Prerequisites:

Current Lifeguard Certification (American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America, Canadian Red Cross, International Lifeguard Training Program, Ellis and Associates, Lifesaving Society of Canada, National Aquatic Safety Company, and Starfish Aquatics Institute), CPR Professional Rescuer, Oxygen, and First Aid certifications. 16 years of age or older; be able to pass the physical competency requirements: Phase 1- tread water for 2 minutes (Legs only) and swim 100 yards of front crawl; Phase 2- Swim 50 yards of each (Front crawl with head up, sidestroke, breaststroke, breaststroke head up, and elementary backstroke kick) and perform a feet first surface dive and swim underwater for 15 feet; Phase 3- sprit to an object then perform an arm over arm surface dive for an object, tread water with object for 1 minute, replace object to bottom of pool, sprint remaining length, get out of pool, conduct 100 compressions on mannequin, and then follow directions from instructor. Required completion of Lifeguard and ASHI e-learning prior to class date (print out certificates for credit).
