The YMCAs of the Tampa Bay are continuing to work together with OneBlood and LifeSouth to address the ongoing need for blood donations.
OneBlood reported they saw 155 donors at their blood drives at the YMCAs and those donations will save the lives of 465 patients in the surrounding hospitals. LifeSouth reported impacting 84 lives with the help of 28 donors. This is just one of the ways the Y is working with community partners to meet critical needs during these challenging times.
“When we heard area hospitals begin to voice concern due to a strained blood supply because donors had concerns surrounding the impact of coronavirus increase, we thought, how can we step up to help save lives?” said YMCA of the Suncoast President/CEO G. Scott Goyer. The YMCAs of Tampa Bay started hosting blood drives with OneBlood and LifeSouth in April.
The YMCA of the Suncoast, Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA, and YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg have partnered with OneBlood and LifeSouth to host additional donation drives at YMCA locations across Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties to ensure ready blood supply for the community. The next one is planned for November, 20, 2020.
