The purpose of YMCA Lifeguard v6 Recertification course is to provide individuals who hold current YMCA Lifeguard certification the opportunity to participate in a modified YMCA Lifeguard course to renew their certification prior to expiration.
Pre-requisites:
- Must currently hold a YMCA Lifeguard certification with current CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen Certifications prior to the class start date.
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Must be able to pass the physical competency requirements:
- Phase 1- tread water for 2 minutes (Legs only) and swim 100 yards of front crawl;
- Phase 2- Swim 50 yards of each (Front crawl with head up, sidestroke, breaststroke, breaststroke head up, and elementary backstroke kick) and perform a feet first surface dive and swim underwater for 15 feet;
- Phase 3- sprit to an object then perform an arm over arm surface dive for an object, tread water with object for 1 minute, replace object to bottom of pool, sprint remaining length, get out of pool, conduct 100 compressions on mannequin, and then follow directions from instructor.
- Required completion of Lifeguard and ASHI e-learning prior to class date (print out certificates for credit).
