We are proud to introduce you to one of our most active members at the Hernando County branch, both as a volunteer and health seeker. This is Lucinda Yoder. She is a mom of six and one of the Y’s many success stories. Lucinda volunteers in multiple areas of the Y and her children are all active participants in various youth development programs. She is an active supporter and volunteer for our annual giving campaign, is a member of our Togetherhood Program and assists in our Feeding Tampa Bay partnership. She also volunteers at our various active adult and family events. Lucinda wanted to share her story in her own words about how the Y has impacted her and why she gives of her time and resources

LUCINDA'S STORY

In one year I have lost a total of 100 pounds! I weighed myself at the YMCA on April 18, 2016 for the first time and that's when it all started! That year was a long, sweaty, fun, stressful and emotional journey for me! I would have never been able to accomplish this without ALL the awesome friends/family I've met at the YMCA!  I had so much encouragement and feel very humbled and am very thankful!

People have asked how I did it and I can honestly say I didn't do anything crazy! Moderation with portion control, wise healthy choices in what goes in my body and working out literally all the time! But having fun while doing it and seeing all the changes that I have made, made it all worth it! I feel so amazing! Since then I have lost another 30 pounds and have kept it all off!

The relationships I built in my health journey here at the Y, lead me to want to give back to an organization that has given me so much. I started to learn more about the Y and the many programs that are run on donations like mine and it amazed me how much good the Y does for our community. By giving monetarily, it felt good to know I was helping those great programs continue to run.

Getting involved and giving my time has been such a humbling and wonderful experience for me and my family. I am so proud to give and volunteer to such an amazing organization that truly cares about the people in the community and about making their lives better.
