Luke the "Breadman" bakes up delicious support for our Annual Campaign
The Y sets itself apart with the support of staff, volunteers and donors who help make it possible to never turn anyone away for inability to pay.
We are continuosly amazed by the support we receive from the community. Luke, a 5th grader at Booker Creek Elementary, is one of those people who has supported--and amazed us. He took his talent, combined it with a school project and created a delicious fundraiser for our annual campaign.
He had a school project that asked him to help the community in some way and involve at least five community service or volunteer hours. Luke decided to have a bake sale and donate the profit to the YMCA, where he has been a member since he was a baby.
When asked why he chose to bake bread instead of cookies he said, "it's a little different than what usual bake sales sell."
Luke knows a bit about the Y mission and cause because his mother is a group excercise instructor at multiple branches. He has seen her helping with the annual giving campaign and various events throughout the years.
Last year, he was able to raise $105 for the Greater Palm Harbor YMCA by selling more than 20 loaves of bread that he baked himself (with mom's help). This year, when given the same assignment he chose to continue with last year's project and again donate to the Y. He sold enough banana, Irish soda and beer bread to donate $107 to the North Pinellas YMCA.
Luke's project presentation is not due until April. He will be making a Power Point to show the class what he did, how he budgeted and the results of his project.
In addition to his generous donation, he also received rave reviews on Facebook for his delicious bread. Not that he would need it, but he may want to consider bringing in a loaf of bread for the teacher to earn some bonus points.
Thank you, Luke!
