YMCA Campers pose with check donated by Publix Charities

Publix cares about sending kids to camp!

On the shared belief that camps can provide so much more than a few days of fun, Publix Super Markets Charities recently supported the YMCA of the Suncoast with a donation of $19,000.

Several team members from the Beckett Lake Plaza Publix, located on 1921 N. Belcher Road in Clearwater, presented the check in June to YMCA of the Suncoast President/CEO G. Scott Goyer, YMCA Senior Vice President/COO Tom Button, YMCA of the Suncoast Vice President/CFO Sharlene Clark and to more than 60 appreciative campers at the Clearwater YMCA.

“One of the most important lessons I’ve learned in my business career is that no man puts together an organization on his own.” – Mr. George Jenkins, Publix Founder.

While summer camp may be top of mind for many parents this time of year, it’s important to remember not everyone has the means to send their kids to a safe place to learn, grow and thrive.

“At the Y, we believe everyone deserves the chance to go to camp. Donations from generous supporters, like Publix, help provide scholarships to qualified families, giving all kids access to learning new skills, developing character and making new friends,” said YMCA of the Suncoast President/CEO G. Scott Goyer.

As a Charity Navigator 4-star charity, the Y raises funds through our annual campaign to provide scholarships to those who might not otherwise be able to afford the cost of membership and programs like camp. Publix Charities Foundation supports causes, like the YMCA of the Suncoast, to help to build healthier communities.
