Thank you to POOLCORP for their continuous support!
We are grateful to POOLCORP for their continuous commitment to swim safety. The company presented YMCA of the Suncoast with a check for $18,200 last month at our James P. Gills YMCA. The event saw leadership from both groups in attendance.
POOLCORP, the world's largest wholesale distributor of swimming pool supplies, equipment and related leisure products will be supporting our swim lesson programming for underserved communities across four YMCA branch locations: Greater Ridgecrest YMCA, James P. Gills Family YMCA, Hernando County YMCA and John Geigle North Pinellas YMCA. In addition, funding will provide financial assistance for the lifeguard certification program and the swim instructor certification program for YMCA staff.
Bill Gifford, Regional Manager with POOLCORP attended the presentation and was impressed with the YMCA of the Suncoast’s swim safety efforts.
“We are excited to be here. We started this partnership with YMCAs across the country in 2021, and with 42,000 lessons in, we are happy to make a difference in underserved communities. We have also certified 3,000 lifeguards. For us, it’s about helping kids and adults.”
“When we look at the staggering and shocking drowning stats across Florida, and that many children don’t have basic swimming skills, we want to help the YMCA curb that,” he added.
Each year donated funds of $18,200 will provide 20 Lifeguard Training Scholarships and 100 Safety Around Water lessons for children who might not otherwise be able to afford to participate. This is the second grant award that POOLCORP has generously donated to the YMCA and is providing funding for the program for another three years.
