The Greater Ridgecrest YMCA has a deep-rooted commitment to supporting and uplifting the Ridgecrest community, with a special focus on youth empowerment.
Through the dedication of our compassionate mentors and the invaluable partnership with YoungLife, we are able to expand our efforts and provide even more meaningful support to the teens in our community.
Tiffany Brown, Executive Director at our Greater Ridgecrest YMCA, shares, “The partnership between the Greater Ridgecrest Y and YoungLife has been thriving for years, and it’s now more crucial than ever. Younglife’s approach to meeting youth where they are is perfectly complemented by the YMCA’s Young Men Mentor Group, BTAG and Teen Talk program.”
Through intentional mentorship, social activities and educational events, we aim to create an environment where young people feel a sense of belonging, build lasting friendships with like-minded peers and gain the skills they need to become successful, thriving adults. Hands-on mentorship is especially crucial for young people in low-income and racially diverse neighborhoods. Research indicates that children from underserved communities are at a higher risk for academic struggles, emotional challenges and involvement in criminal activities. Our partnership plays a vital role in bridging this gap, providing essential support and guidance to teens during these formative years.
Tiffany adds, “As a community, we are uniting to help serve our youth in any capacity. In addition to our Y programs, YoungLife hosts its Club/Gatherings at our YMCA every Monday, serving approximately 30-40 youth!”
At one of our recent YMCA and YoungLife events the Young Boys Mentoring Group had the opportunity to explore their creative side while discussing the profound question: Who am I? Through their artwork, the teens were encouraged to reflect on their identities, values and aspirations, allowing them to express themselves in meaningful ways and gain a deeper understanding of who they are and what they aspire to become.
As we continue to build a stronger, more connected community, the partnership between the Greater Ridgecrest YMCA and YoungLife remains a vital force in shaping the future of our youth. But we need your help to make an even bigger impact!
If you’re passionate about guiding the next generation, we invite you to become a mentor and make a difference in a young person’s life. To learn more about our partnership with YoungLife or to get involved with our youth programs, visit us at the YMCA today.
