At the YMCA, we've been teaching people of all ages to swim for over 100 years! Our progressive model of swimming lessons allows any individual to learn fundamentals and build skill gradually. From water adaptation to swim teams and everything in between, let the YMCA become your Swimming Instructor!

 

Pool Schedule

YMCA Scuba

SCUBA can lead to exciting adventures and unique memories for you and your family. Your NAUI Instructor Jeff Paine (727-804-7672) will teach you about dive equipment, the science of diving, responsible diving practices and the environment. Weekly sessions include both classroom and pool training where you will learn and have the opportunity to practice skills in the water. You will complete your training with a two open water dives.

The recommended age is 12 years of age or older and you must be in good physical condition. Students under the age of 18 will need to have parental consent and their parents’ presence may be requested for classes. The Program fee includes the use of basic scuba equipment during training sessions. Students will need to provide basic personal equipment, educational materials and fees for open water dives.

We need a minimum of 4 participants in order to hold the session.

Age: 12 and up
Schedule: Sept 7th – Oct 5th

Tuesdays (classroom) 6:30 - 9:00 pm,
Saturdays (pool) 10:00 am – 1:00 pm

Open water dives – 10/9 at Weekie Wachee and 10/16 at Boyton beach

Fee: $265 Facility Members; $345 Program Members
In addition to the Program Fee there will be a cost for open water dives and educational materials

 

Swim Lessons

Certified instructors teach all YMCA swim classes. The YMCA Swim Lessons program was developed by experts and field-tested by Y aquatics instructors and uses current research on motor control, motor learning, and child development.

All classes will focus on helping children be safer around water, boating safety and character development. The instructor/student ratio for preschool classes is 1:6, and school age and adult classes is 1:8. Each session consists of 6 classes.

 

Mon/Wed AM Classes – Session 1: June 14th-June 30th

Session 2: July 6th – July 22 Session 3: July 26th – Aug 11th

Tues/Thurs AM Classes: Session 1 : June 16th – July 1st

Session 2: July 5th – July 21st

Session 3: July 27th – Aug 12th

parent/child swim

A water adjustment and enrichment program for children 6 to 36 months. Parents are required to participate in the water with their children. There is an emphasis on educating parents in water safety while having fun with their children in an aquatic environment. *A parent must accompany the infant for this course.

Beginning swimming skills including: water submersion, blowing bubbles, paddling arms, kicking feet, front and back floats with assistance, personal safety and water games. 30 minute lessons

Beginning / Intermediate swimming skills including: water submersion, beginning rhythmic breathing, paddling arms and kicking feet with independent movement, front and back float, safety and water games. 30 minute lessons

ray

Intermediate swimming skills including: front paddle with rhythmic breathing, beginning backstroke and elementary backstroke, underwater swimming, safety and water games. 30 minute lessons

starfish

Advanced swimming skills including: front and back float unassisted for 30
seconds, 25 yards front crawl and back crawl with float belt, 20 feet without float belt, rhythmic breathing 15 yards. 30 minute lessons

 

School Age 6-12

polliwog

Beginning swimming skills including: beginning rhythmic breathing, paddling arms and kicking feet with independent movement, front and back float, safety and water games, beginning backstroke and elementary backstroke, safety and water games. 40 minute lessons

guppy

Intermediate swimming skills including: freestyle 25 yards with rhythmic breathing, backstroke and elementary backstroke, beginning diving, safety and water games. 40 minute lessons

minnow

Intermediate / advanced swimming skills including: freestyle 25 yards with rotary breathing, backstroke and elementary backstroke, beginning breaststroke, competitive starts and turns, diving, safety and water games. 40 minute lessons

fish

Advanced swimming skills including: 100 yards of freestyle with open turns, 100 yards backstroke and elementary backstroke with open turns, breaststroke, beginning butterfly, diving, safety and water games.

Porpoise Club

Looking to join our PYP Competitive swim team? Porpoise Club focuses on swimming techniques, endurance training and specific strokes that are necessary for joining swim team. Swimmers will work on starts and flip turns as well. Porpoise Club swimmers should be above a Fish ability level and must be able to swim 25 yards continuously with bilateral breathing.

Session #1 September 1st thru September 29th

Schedule: Wednesdays & Fridays 5:00 – 5:45 pm

Attendance is not required at all practices. Swimmers may attend as many or as few practices as they want.

PYP Piranhas Swim Team

We are a year-round competitive swim program where a positive and supportive environment is established to help improve stroke, technique, skills and goals for each individual swimmer in the program. PYP will build good people and good swimmers through constant attention to teaching and training.

Each workout group is designed to develop ability levels working toward individual goals which may include reaching Junior Olympic, YMCA Nationals, Sectional or National level qualifying times.

We help you become the swimmer you have the potential to be!
