West Pasco YMCA’s 8th Annual Kids Fishing Festival

Saturday, October 2, 9:00 am – 2:00 pm
Orange Lake/Sims Park, Downtown New Port Richey
Fee: $10 donation
Registration begins September 1

This catch and release tournament is open to children ages 5-12. Entry into Festival includes t-shirt, rod/reel combo, tackle box, and lunch. * Note: T-shirts are given out on a first come first serve basis.

At the event, children are taught the correct method used to bait a hook, cast, and to safely catch a fish to later be released; fish species are discussed at the event measuring table, and children are encouraged to protect the environment and fish population through responsible activity near and on the water. Adult anglers and professional guides are present to offer fishing facts, guidance and motivation.

In addition, we also offer a “fish rubbing” table with rubber stamps and paints for the younger children. We use this opportunity to teach them about the environment, fishing, and to engage them in the idea of protecting our waters and the animals that live there.

Scholarship opportunities are available. Please contact Lynn Sweeney at lsweeney@suncoastymca.org for more information.
