SilverSneakers® Fitness Program

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball are offered for resistance and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.

YMCA Small Communities

Art Lovers Club – trips planned to Florida Art Museum (group discount), Outing at one of Florida’s 162 State Parks - Photographers and Plein Air Painters will love this one, One Day “Arts and Craft Show” at the YMCA. For more information call Jana Withers at 688-9622.

Red Shirt Day – early Friday mornings meet in our café area to show off your red shirt and have a cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate on us!

Scrabble Club – get together with fellow members in our activity center. Simply check out a scrabble game at the member service desk.

Zumba Social Club – Zumba participants planned a quarterly calendar to get together for dinner, miniature golf, karaoke and a Christmas breakfast get together at the YMCA after class. For more information call Olivia at 688-9622.

Rehab Wellness Program

The Hernando County Family YMCA is proud to offer this special program designed to help those with special needs. Any member who has a special need due to health problems such as stroke, M.S., auto accidents, or simple everyday mobility limitations can benefit from this program, after they have completed a physician monitored physical therapy program or have been referred to us by their physician directly. The instructors are NOT physical therapist or doctors, but are certified personal trainers who can modify a member's program based on the recommendations of their physician. The rehab wellness program consists of one on one instruction with an instructor to assist members through strength training as well as cardiovascular equipment. A completed medical clearance form must be presented before session can begin.

Personal Training

Certified Personal Trainers are available to work with you to develop a training program that will meet your fitness goals. One-hour sessions are available to Facility members only.

SCUBA

Hernando YMCA of the Suncoast, in collaboration with instructor Mark Butler, offers the national recognized YMCA SCUBA certification course.  Students are not required to be proficient swimmers, but more importantly are comfortable in the water, and different water settings.  Classes are held inside the YMCA pool with two off-site open water dives. Students will need a swim suit, towel, their own snorkel and masks (items can be purchased on the first day of class) - all other equipment will be provided. Suncoast SwimFit Masters Swim Team

Suncoast SwimFit is a diverse swimming program for all adults. It is designed for adults from all walks of life and a wide range of ages from 18-90 years old. Whether you’re a competitive swimmer, a triathlete, or just looking for a low impact exercising program, the Suncoast SwimFit Masters Swim Team is for you!

Age: 18 or older (must be medically fit)
Fee/monthly: Facility Members $45; Program Members $65
Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6 - 7 pm

Adult & Teen Swim Lessons

The Adult Aquatic Program provides swimming education for adults at a variety of different levels from terrified of the water to stroke development. The class is taught at the student's pace with guidance from an instructor.
Age: 12 and older

Tues/Thurs 7:15-8 pm
Sat 8:30-9:30 am

Senior Softball

Our Men's Softball league runs year round. Games are played Wednesday evenings. Full teams are welcome each season and individual players are welcome to show up at the fields to try to get on a team.

Guitar Lessons

Beginning and advanced guitar lessons for youth and adults are offered Saturday mornings. New four week sessions begin the first Saturday of every month. Class times are as follows:

Age: Advanced (Youth & Adult) – 8 am
Beginner Youth (ages 8-12) – 9 am
Beginner Adult (ages 13 & up) – 10 am
Intermediate (Youth & Adult) – 11 am
Fee/monthly: $32 Facility Members; $50 Program Members
Schedule: Saturday of every month

Outdoor Fitness Trail

This trail consists of ten exercise stations, which include horizontal bars, a sit up board, a spring balance beam, leg press, and many other types of fitness stations that will be a benefit to members of all ages. This trail weaves through an outdoor wooded setting.
